Getting the most from the financial calculators

  • Use the rate you are actually quoted. Advertised rates often assume excellent credit; your offer may differ.
  • Compare total cost, not just the monthly payment. A longer term lowers the payment but usually raises the total interest a lot.
  • Look at the schedule. Amortization tables show how much of each payment goes to interest, and how extra payments shorten a loan.
  • Check fees. The APR folds up-front fees into the rate, which makes offers easier to compare.

These calculators give estimates for planning and comparison. They are not financial, tax or legal advice. Confirm figures with your lender, and talk to a qualified adviser before making major decisions.
